The Apple Valley Airport Open House show is close at hand Oct .2nd. Be Prepared BE THERE
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of another year for the club. This has been a very eventful year with a lot of good and some bad things happening. As we get ready to leap into the next year, we ask everybody to think carefully and ask yourself, what you can do to make this club enjoyable and successful. There are many places to get involved and this is a perfect time to step forward and let it known what you would like to do. At the September meeting we will be nominating new officers and it would be very encouraging to have people interested in pushing this club forward to achieve great things in this coming year. Also, with the beginning of the new year, the annual dues are to be paid in September or October for all renewing members. We have already had some members pay their dues for this coming year and we are appreciative of their attentiveness to this matter. We may sound like a broken record, but we want to again encourage every member to keep your ears and eyes open for property we might be able to use for a permanent flying sight. We are not having to move right now, but our current sight will not be available forever, and it would be nice to have somewhere ready for us when that time does come.
This month we will be focusing on the “Open House” at the Apple Valley Airport. Please be preparing your aircraft to display at this event and we should have a lot of public interest. This is an excellent way to show people what we do and get them interested in our club. Thank you Aaron for starting the e-bay project and thank you to all the members that have donated items already. Remember, if anybody has airplane parts that they do not really need, please get them to Aaron so he can include it in his inventory. Along the same lines as above, thank you to everybody who donated items to raffle at the monthly meetings. This is a good way to get people to attend the monthly meetings as well as generating income for our faltering treasury. We are getting a lot of spectators at the field now and we all need to be ever mindful of those people coming up to the fence. We, as a club, are getting better and better about this and we just want to encourage you to keep up the good work
.We need to get the introductory pilots program up and running and completed with instructor pilots and the test that comes with it. If you are interested in being an instructor pilot see Tom Guptill. Remember, this is YOUR club. This means that everyone needs to be involved with all aspects of it as much as possible. There is always room for volunteers to work at the field, to donate materials for various projects and to contribute financially. Any contributions to better your club are always greatly appreciated. If anyone has any ideas or comments on how we can better run the club and/or make it grow, please be keeping those notes and bring them to the meeting so we may discuss new ideas and possibly implement additional policies as they are voted on.
September meeting is the second Tuesday which is the 10th. Please mark your calendar as everyone’s input is important to make this club run smoothly.

It has been brought to our attention that we are getting a little lax with the freq. control board. There has been a couple of incidents lately with radios being turned on with out the freq. card in hand. We have Velcro dots available to put on your radio so that you can affix the card the card to the radio. This way you will be reminded to get the card and also return the card when you completed the flight. Your cooperation will be appreciated.
I picked up a little tidbit on the net the other day. Hobby Town USA will be coming soon to Victorville. How true this little item may be is any one’s guess but we really need a hobby shop here now. I will check on it and let you know what I find out at the meeting.
I would like to thank the membership for their participation in the elections held at our October meeting and also to thank them for the opportunity to serve as president for the next year. I feel that the club is capable of making a place for itself in the High Desert Community, and with a little work on our part, acquiring a permanent flying field. In my recent experiences with the club I have noticed a growing amount of pride in the field, this enthusiasm can be used to benefit the club and promote the hobby. We have a new board of directors to guide the club through the next year so if you have any ideas on how to promote the organization through community projects or events please bring this to the attention of one of the board members.
The club flying field is coming along nicely through the efforts of the new field maintenance officer, and the support of the members. The storage building will soon conform to the Apple Valley building standards so I believe that we are over that hurdle. With the removal of some of the hay bales and the installation of the new fence, the flying fields periodic maintenance should be minimal.
We are having our first Toys for Tots fun fly. The events should be entertaining for both the flyer and the non flyer, so tell your friends about the event, charge up your plane and come on out and join the fun. There will be prizes and refreshments. Weather permitting it should last all day. Remember that VVRCF is only as strong as its membership so come on out to fly and support your club. Last but not least, it is time to pay our annual dues. This is the money to operate the club and to keep the field in its top condition. So please get these dues paid so that we may continue to grow and offer the services that you currently enjoy.
I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area. So I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because they were trained professionals and I was in good hands."Now," She asked me, "has your plane arrived yet?"... And then she voted.
Mark your calendar on the 20th to help out and to have fun at the Toys for Tots fun fly. We will be needing a lot of help pulling this off . There is still much to be done getting the field prepared for what we hope is a big turn out. If everyone does a little each weekend getting ready should be no problem. You might be asked to help out during the fun fly but everyone who wants to compete will do so. It is a requirement to have fun at a fun fly. If you have never been to a fun fly you are in for a surprise, it’s a blast.
I have fliers to be handed out or posted in area stores. Your cooperation is needed in getting the word out. If you go to hobby shops out of the area spread the word. With the events that are planned, your every day flyer will work just fine. A trainer could very well win, and yes there will be prizes. Entry fee is one $10.00 or more unwrapped toy.Be prepared for a great time.
Changes in the crash trophy award. Be sure you are at the next meeting for the big surprise. You still have to crash to be eligible for the esteemed award. Have your stories ready for the meeting.
The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four North Americans is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends, if they're okay, then it's you
If you have items to donate to the club that can be used for sale on Ebay please contact Aaron Strietzel at 760-947-8905. Or you can bring the items to the field. Please no complete airplanes. This will be a major fund raiser for our club.
Every month this section will be used for selling or trading items. If you want to list here call Charlie at 760-951-2228 or email:charliewayne1@verizon.net
VICTOR VALLEY R/C FLYERS
ON THE WEB www.victorvalleyrcflyers.comOnce upon a time… as a young boy I would spend hours upon hours gazing at my newly arrived Sig Mfg. catalog. I would dream about all those glorious model kits and especially the full page color pictures in the first 20 pages that featured radio controlled models. I would imagine I had just won the National Scale Championships with my multi-channel radio controlled masterpiece. Due to the fact that my allowance was $5.00 per week, I knew I could never afford one of these magnificent kits, much less a radio or engine. I can remember writing letters to a far off distant land called Montezuma, Iowa for copies of the instructions for more dreaming and wishing.
When someone would ask "What would you like to be when you grow up?"
I always replied... "A WWII Fighter Pilot". It took me awhile to figure out why everyone always laughed. Dad would take me to work with him every Saturday morning, around noon; we would have lunch and quick trip to the local flying field to admire the model airplanes. After a visit to the local hobby shop and a .50 cent Comet model, I was the happiest kid on earth. I can remember having all my printed Comet airplane parts and sticks ready for when my Dad would come home from work. Dad wouldn't allow me to have the glue by myself. (Sorry Dad, sometimes I sneaked into your drafting table drawer where you kept the Ambroid cement).
At the age of about 10, my modeling graduated into free-flight models like the old Jetco Thermic "72" and Super Sinbad kits. As a teenager, I received my Dad's "hand-me-down" Futaba 3 channel radio. This thing was a tan, square, metal box with one stick and an extra trim tab for the throttle. Wow! I was on my way! My father taught me to fly with an Eaglet 50, various Stick's and Olympic II gliders. I soon moved on to the Top Flight (red box) warbirds.
Well...Now I am 37 years old and married to a very loving and beautiful Filipina from the Philippines. We have a child that’s almost 2 years old. Yep... he's a boy! And you bet... I have an old Guillow's Piper Super Cub 95 "Build by Number" rubber band kit on his dresser table just waiting for him. I just hope I can plant the seed of joy and childhood wonderment that I shared with my father into my son.
You might ask “What is Virtually Scale?”
RC Scale modeling for many years has always been a “black art” or a reserved community for exceptionally talented builders and designers. In the world we live in today this does not hold true. The internet has hit the modeling community in a huge way. For instance, we can now watch and interject with top modelers, builders and designers and literally watch their next years “Top Gun” entry unfold from conception to completion. We can share ideas and techniques with modelers from around the world.
Every month I hope to introduce new techniques and a forum to inspire those who might say “I could never build like that” because you can! The best scale modelers and the world class contest winners get there for a reason …
They have tremendous passion for scale modeling.
